My name is Pollock
Hi buddies. My name is Pollock and shall I introduce myself? I was born in Cody, Wyoming, United States, 1912. It was so close to World War I and it was such a terrible time for the world. However, that's not the point. It was also the period of surrealist artists at that time and my works were very much like theirs. In 1930, I moved with my older brother, Charles Pollock and studied art under Thomas Hart Benton whose influence had little effect on me. I was introduced to liquid paint in 1936 and that was when I began to experiment with the technique of paint pouring, much of which happened in the 1940s, when World War II began...sigh. Well, closer to 1940, I get to meet my best friend Willem De Kooning, whom I started the Abstract Expressionism movement with, along with other artists. I was obssessed with drip paintings in the 1940s.

Hi Pollock! You seem interesting, but what did you use to paint before 1936 (if not liquid paint)?
